Frequently Asked Questions

Q-What is an essential oil?

A: Essential Oils are the concentrated essence of trees, herbs, and plants. These natural compounds come from seeds, leaves, stems, bark, roots, flowers and other plant parts depending on which portion of the plant is most beneficial.

Q- How is the oil extracted?
A: There are several methods to obtaining essential oil from a plant. The majority Mulberry Pines oils are produced using Steam Distillation or Cold Press methods of extraction. Both of these methods are the industry standard for obtaining pure essential oil. Steam distillation uses hot steam to break down the stems and plant parts which releases the plants essential oil in a vapor form which can then be cooled and separated from water for bottling the pure essential oil. Cold Press extraction is most commonly used for citrus fruits like grapefruit and orange since the most potent oil is found in the peel of the fruit.

Q- How should I use essential oils?
A: There are a wide variety of ways to use pure essential oils to harness their amazing benefits and properties. Mulberry Pines highly recommends that you fully research all oils before use, never use to treat, diagnose or cure your own aliments without consulting a health care professional. In general, all essential oils should be diluted with a carrier oil with the exception of lavender and tea tree oil which can be applied directly to the skin, unless you have a specific sensitivity to the oil. We recommend spot testing new oils to see how your skin reacts with each individual application.

Common ways to use essential oils:

  1. Direct skin application including massages, applying to pressure points, bottom of your feet, compresses, and direct application to area of aliment (Again, we recommend using a carrier oil, most pure essential oils can cause skin irritation because they are so concentrated!)
  2. Inhalation: Using a diffuser, applying to linen, scarves, or any other method for aromatherapy.
  3. Indirect application: Essential oils are great for use with other daily activities including soaking in a bath, cleaning around your home, purifying the air in your house through the HVAC filter and so much more! There are thousands of published books and online articles that can give you great ideas for integrating essential oils into your life.

Q- How should I store my Mulberry Pines products?

A: Mulberry Pines products are sold in brown glass bottles which are best for keeping your oils fresh and stable. Store your products in a cool area, out of direct sunlight for best results. When purchasing a Mulberry Pines air freshener make sure to always shake the bottle before use, the different densities of our ingredients will cause natural separation.

Q-How do you offer such great prices on your pure essential oils?
A: Mulberry Pines sources our oils from reputable distributors who are Kosher & Vegan Certified. We choose only the highest quality oils by examining the constitutes of each oil and confirming the quality and purity of that oil meet the high Mulberry Pines standard. All of our oils are sourced with a certificate of analysis and MSDS analysis sheet. We are able to offer great prices to our customers because we are not a multi-level marketing company who inflates prices or uses affiliates to distribute our products. We are a family run business based in Michigan who believes in charging fair prices for the highest quality oils possible. Everything we create is done by hand, we do not pay any big businesses to assist in streamlining our processes. We bottle, label, hand make and distribute on our own.

Q-Can your oils be ingested?
A: Although many of our oils are considered food grade, we do not market any of our products for ingestion. There is no FDA approval or clinical research validating that it is safe to ingest pure essential oils. It can be very dangerous and harmful to use 100% pure essential oils internally. Please do not ingest! Consuming pure essential oils is not the best method of use. Topical application or inhalation are by far safer and more effective for use since the oil can reach your cells and blood stream more directly without having to pass through all of your internal organs first where they encounter acids and other bodily fluids. Always consult a doctor who is well versed in the safe use and application of pure essential oils before consuming.

Q- Are your oils Pure Therapeutic Grade? How do I know they are high quality?

A: To begin, there is no universally regulated grading system for essential oils. Companies sometimes use this term in marketing to try to show their own personal standard which is not in any way regulated by the FDA or other governing agency. Since the term "therapeutic grade" isn't based on any established standards or regulation, it can be used without regard to the quality of the oil. Mulberry Pines sources our oils from reputable suppliers who take the time to offer certificates of analysis & MSDS sheets for every pure oil showing the breakdown of each oil’s constitutes, origin and handling history. We choose to sell only the best quality oils which we fully trust and that we personally use.
